[edit] About the Hack

Daft Hanger is a coat hanger that let's you play (part of) the vocals from Daft Punk's 'Harder Better Faster Stronger'. The triggering of the vocal samples happens by moving the coat hangers on the top beam of the hall stand. This creates a whole new experience to emerge in the music, by combining furniture with sample triggering. Also it looks ridiculous ;)

[edit] Technology used

The hall stand is a metal-framed lower-middle class piece with a high top beam, a low bottom beam and four feet. The coat hangers are wooden and have a metal top. Both were probably bought at IKEA, but who knows such details nowadays anyways?

The m4a of 'Harder Better Faster Stronger' was bought in the iTunes Store and converted to .aif by using XLD.

The playback of the song as well as the vocal sample happens in a RaspberryPi, using RubyGame's sound engine. The triggering happens via a MakeyMakey.

[edit] Source Code and Links

The main script is simple, you can see it here: https://gist.github.com/3970042

The RaspberryPi was configured to boot without login and starts the script tight away

[edit] Future

I'm open to offers for diving into the intersection of sample triggering and furniture more. The script could really need some protection against double triggering.
